Dynamics of Music Festivals

with Tim Sweetwood and Mike Walbert
on Wednesday, March 25, 2015
at SAE Institute of Technology in Atlanta
The global music festival business continues to grow and provide a platform for established and developing artists to acquire new fans quickly. Festivals draw from the same talent and sponsor pool in an increasingly crowded market place (over 3,500 around the world each year). At this NARIP program our experts discuss how festivals remain competitive and expand their reach, book talent, and where the best opportunities are for careerists and developing artists.
Trends and opportunities to be discussed:
- Best opportunities for developing talent at local and international festivals
- Rise of the DJ: Over 60% of the acts at Coachella last year were DJs
- Growing source of revenue: VIP packages including “glamping,” VIP campgrounds and amenities
- Streaming live, exclusivity, radius clauses: what this means for promoters and artists
- Why more major acts now play festivals instead of arenas
- Brands spending more on festivals
- What sponsors want from artists
- Performance fee ranges, and who gets what
- More in-house positions, music divisions within brands (one soft drink company has 100-person music department).
NARIP’s panel of experts will discuss how an artist’s career trajectory can be improved with strategic bookings at festivals; how shows are bought, sold and built upon; and how people make money from them.
