NARIP ‘Hollywood to London Music Delegation’ for Culture, Commerce and IP Protection

(Hollywood, CA / London, UK – November 11, 2011)

National Association of Record Industry Professionals (www.NARIP.com) president Tess Taylor leads a music delegation from Hollywood to London this week for meetings to protect intellectual property, preserve creativity, and create new opportunities for music whose uses contribute to the national economies of the United States, the United Kingdom and world culture.

While in London the delegation will be featured at five music acquisition sessions for American television and film productions, and meet with national and international music organizations and with government agencies, including the American Embassy, which are working to strengthen the protection of Intellectual property rights.

NARIP brings popular film and television music supervisors, Andrea von Foerster (The OC, Grey’s Anatomy) and Chris Mollere (Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars) to London to conduct a series of educational programs for the British music industry.  These programs create an opportunity to develop relationships and encourage the use of British music in American television and film productions.

Both supervisors actively seek music for current American projects, and music publishers, record company executives, personal managers and others will be presenting to them in London for consideration. Such music placements generate licensing fees and public performance royalties to their creators and owners, stimulate CD and digital sales, increase consumer awareness and media interest, and can provide an important vehicle for developing new artists to recognition and success.

“Artists and songwriters, and the record and music publishing industries have suffered unprecedented losses from illegal downloads, piracy and counterfeiting, but the demand for great music will always exist, and where there is demand, there is potential for restoring a robust and healthy environment from which creativity and consumers throughout the world benefit,“ says Tess Taylor, President of NARIP and creator of its Music Supervisor Sessions. “Music authors, government and industry must work together to ensure that creativity and intellectual property rights are encouraged, protected and enforced as cornerstones of the American and British national economies, and vibrant ongoing contributors to world culture.“

Two of NARIP’s Music Supervisor Sessions in London are SOLD OUT, more  dates have been added:

NARIP sessions have been a hit in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Berlin, selling out in four cities. Session participants have enjoyed music placements in True Blood and Dexter, with more placements pending.

“We have created a new access point that wasn’t available before,” says Taylor. “We’re thrilled by the success of these sessions which broaden Hollywood’s access to quality music from rich and diverse sources. NARIP helps to make the distance between Hollywood and the rest of the world that much shorter.”

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve been enamored with music from the UK and some of my favorite songs and albums of all time are from British artists,“ says Chris Mollere. “I look forward to spending the week enjoying London and seeking out more amazing British music!” Mollere‘s favorites include Elbow, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Arctic Monkeys, Joy Division, The Vaccines, Shady Bard and Gomez.

“Year in year out the most consistently amazing music comes from the UK such as Various Cruelties, The Vaccines, La Roux, Adele, Eliza Doolittle, White Lies, Fyfe Dangerfield, Chapel Club, Plan B, Chase & Status, The xx and more,“ says Andrea von Foerster. “For every project I’ve worked on during the last 12 years I’ve made sure to pay attention to what was coming out of the Mother Country. I look forward to meeting more people in London who can help me discover the next big thing to place in my projects.“.

“We are excited to announce the first in a series of NARIP London Music Supervisor Sessions,” says NARIP UK Executive Director and delegation member Sharon Dean, who is also founder of Respect Music. “Music placements into the U.S. film, TV, trailer and advertising markets are of significant importance to all music creators, and NARIP’s initiative offers access to the key U.S. music supervisors and decision makers.”

NARIP’s Music Supervisor Sessions expand its participants potential to secure new uses of their music and level the playing field for those who may not yet have enormous market presence or music catalogs.

She won both times. From 1988 to 1993 Ms. Taylor was employed at MCA Records, Inc., last serving as Associate Director of Marketing.
