I’m a transactional lawyer for digital, entertainment, trademark (branding) and copyright clients. Four distinct, but related practice areas, in which I work with clients in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Japan. So basically, I’m a creative lawyer for creative people and companies. What makes me different than other lawyers who practice in these areas? The difference is my unique experience, background and approach to helping my clients succeed.
- I’m a business lawyer. I’ve always focused on my clients’ “big picture” objectives, not just on individual transactions or matters that are only a part of them.
- Was an entertainment /licensing contract litigator for over ten years. Taught me what can go wrong with a contract and ways to prevent it. In over 30 years, only 2 contracts I wrote were ever attempted to be broken or litigated. Neither attempt was successful.
- I’ve always represented clients in many facets of an industry. This gives me a “global view” and unique understanding of how all the moving parts of a deal need to interact for a client to be successful and how to structure, write and negotiate deals accordingly.
- I have practical experience on the creative side of entertainment and media projects. So, I understand how this needs to be accommodated in a deal/contract.
What all this means is that in my case, “creative lawyer” isn’t an oxymoron.
