Mike Boris, Senior VP and Executive Music Producer, McCann Erickson

Mike discovered the power of music at a very young age. While watching cartoons on Saturday mornings he shut the sound off his TV, and cranked his brother’s Led Zeppelin, Beatles, and Black Sabbath records. This experience made him realize how music affects the attitude of a picture and set him on his future career path. Mike began his career as a recording engineer which created a foundation of sonic excellence while also providing valuable insight into the creative process.. Mike transitioned to the role of music producer and honed his craft at several New York ad agencies before joining McCann in 2002. To date, he has worked on music for more than 5,000 TV commercials. Mike’s awards include the McCann-Erickson Producer of the Year for 2006, a CLIO, as well as several Effies. Mike was also the drummer of the band – More F*ING Cowbell – which won Adweek’s “Battle of the Ad Bands” for two consecutive years in 2008 and 2009. He actively pursues unique global talent to ensure his clients always receive a contemporary creative perspective. He is a frequent guest speaker for music industry panel discussions as well as a constant source for industry periodicals.

* Update: Since inviting him to speak as part of NARIP’s series, Mike Boris has transitioned from his position as Senior VP and Executive Music Producer at McCann Erickson to becoming an independent music consultant. He has great perspective to share from his 9 years at McCann and almost 20 years in ad agency / music world. He is now working on various projects that include Weight Watchers, Mastercard and others.
