Modern A&R: What You Need To Succeed
And How To Make The RIGHT Record
on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 (7:00 p.m.)
at LAMA College for Music Professionals in Pasadena, CA
What IS A&R and why does it matter to your success?
A&R is not only critical to the opportunities created for new talent, industry growth and the creation of new jobs, it is THE most critical decision in the record industry. Every investment a record company makes is triggered, directly or indirectly, by an A&R decision.
In this NARIP program, A&R and artist development experts Mark Mazzetti and Michael Carey (who is also a producer) will discuss how they have helped to create and sustain careers for superstar and indie artists (including Sting, Janet Jackson, Dishwalla, Aaron Neville, John Mayer, Robbie Williams, Will Smith, Rascal Flatts and others), guiding their careers to hit singles, platinum sales and global success.
No matter how successful, an artist will ALWAYS benefit from the objective, informed opinions of A&R executives who help craft rough cuts into smash hits.
TO BE DISCUSSED
- Framing the picture: how to develop all elements necessary to make a great record
- Does anyone need “A&R” anymore? (often aspiring artists spin their wheels without the benefit of strategic vision of experienced music pros)
- How to determine direction: song choice, production style, aesthetics
- How to create hit songs:writing, co-writing or finding outside material
- Recording, mixing, mastering: process and direction
YOU WILL LEARN
- Setting realistic goals
- How the A&R process can help make the RIGHT recording
- A&R for ANY artist…a must-have
- The relationship between record company (if any) and talent in the Internet Age
- How to improve a song, and increase its impact and marketability
- Necessary creative elements to sell music and establish a career
Don’t miss this insider’s peek at the artistic and economic realities of the fastest-changing business in the world. Most importantly, this NARIP program gives you practical information you can apply immediately to create a better record NOW.
