DOCUMENT DESCRIPTION:
When I hear people say they have no time to read, I laugh softly to myself. That’s like saying you have no time to learn or improve. How ridiculous. Take a leaf from my father’s book: he carried something to read with him wherever he went when he was alive, which I do too you’ll find a dozen opportunities every day to read a page or two if you have a book with you. It’s a wonderful habit. And if you think the cost of education (and the time it takes) is too high, consider the cost of ignorance. The key to continued success in this world is having an edge and an education. Besides, a library card is free. Some of these books are about the music industry specifically, but all of them support the common goal of improving your plan, skills and effectiveness in life, and to become the best possible version of yourself.
Here’s to your success!
Cheers,
Tess Taylor

DESCRIPTION:
This list of Digital Distribution Players was assembled by Rich Masio for NARIP in early 2011. The only methodology applied is the subjective analysis by the author. This is intended to be a reference and teaching tool, not all-inclusive. Apologies to anyone inadvertently omitted.
Also includes lists of the top companies in these categories:
With over 2 decades of experience in the digital and physical worlds, last year Rich departed a six-year tenure from the world?s leading digital distributor IODA to launch his consulting practice, The Department of Public Works. Clients include media companies that require digital and mobile strategy, distributors and record companies, and his services include domestic and international licensing for physical and digital deals. In 2005, after spending four years in leadership roles at two independent physical distributors, Big Daddy and Sheridan Square?s Musicrama/MDM Division, Rich joined IODA in its infancy. Traveling around the world, Rich licensed and managed top catalogs for digital distribution deals, including mobile and marketing support. He led the development of IODA?s foray into digital video distribution where he supervised content acquisition and helped strike deals with Apple, Netflix and Amazon while leading the company?s internal teams to support the category. Rich has also held position at two leading online companies ? SonicNet and CDNOW.com, was GM at Vermont-based indie rock label Safehouse, and a publicist at Formula PR where he worked with Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Wolfgang Press (one of Rich?s all-time favorite artists), Live and others. Other stints include DJ at Pyramid and Limelight, co-publisher of the fanzine Oculus, live music event producer at CBGB?s, Under Acme and Tramps, and music journalist.

DOCUMENT DESCRIPTION:
Because I get asked for recommendations quite a bit, I recently compiled and posted a FREE short list of recommended music attorneys (and a few non-attorneys) for your convenience. What soon followed were requests for mediators, the new (and frequently less expensive) way to reach a resolution.
One of our NARIP members Judith Weigle (herself a professional mediator) has compiled this list for your benefit and convenience. She can be helpful to further explain how mediation fits into the legal process, with or without attorneys involvement, before litigation, in the middle of litigation, and in contrast to arbitration and the traditional court trial. She can help answer questions about the mediators on this list who may be better suited for your particular issue. Contact her at Judy AT ExtremeMediation DOT com or 323-937-7497.
Keep in mind that finding a good business associate is like dating: you may have to kiss a few toads. So while the age-old caveat emptor principle applies, luckily, the individuals listed here are all known to us to be highly competent.
Even so, you will likely vibe more with some than with others, and they all vary in their specializations within the music business. Some are more affordable than others and are more indie-oriented. So check them out, see what works for you (and what doesnt) and if you have any negative experiences, please let me know. More importantly, let me hear the good news as well.
Please let these individuals know NARIP referred you. We receive no consideration or commission of any kind for these referrals, but if it works out, wed love to hear about your experience and publish a success story.
Good luck, and know your business!
Cheers,
Tess Taylor
