Shawn Moseley is Manager of A&R for Touch / a muzak co. He works closely with the experience design agency’s Strategy Consulting team, leveraging his relationships with key content owners and rights holders to the mutual benefit of artist and client. Highly involved in the creative A&R process, Moseley seeks and signs talent with a keen eye (and ear) for non traditional music-brand partnerships. He drives brand-to-consumer media engagement strategy, development, and delivery by using 17 years of industry experience and a broad network to deliver targeted, focused and measurable solutions. Prior to joining the 76 year old media company, Moseley worked for various major and independent labels including Epic Records, Brash Music, Time Bomb Recordings, Island Def Jam Music Group and Columbia Records working with artists like Augustana, Jay-Z, Social Distortion, Lionel Richie, Willie Nelson, Graham Nash, Ludacris and Sunny Day Real Estate. Cappriccieo M. Scates is Associate Director of Writer / Publisher Relations for SESAC. Cheryl R. Berman, Founder, UnBundled Creative

In her three-decade Leo Burnett career, Cheryl Berman was responsible for the majority of the agency’s most successful and famous marketing efforts. As Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of Leo Burnett USA, Cheryl held Leo’s own original job. She played a vital role bringing in more than half the accounts residing at the agency when she left, including McDonald’s, Disney, Hallmark, PetSmart, Altoids, Turner Classic Movies, Coca Cola, Kraft Foods, and ConAgra. Cheryl has always championed results driven work. For the last ten years under her leadership, Leo Burnett was the single most awarded agency for effectiveness. Cheryl is a role model for women. In 2004, she struck a chord with the concept “Miss Understood: She’s Not Buying Your Ads,” which debuted at the International Advertising Festival in Cannes. Cheryl continues to speak on this topic around the world, receiving acclaim from CNN, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist and Reuters. Cheryl has frequently written award-winning original music for brands like McDonald’s, Disney, Hallmark and Kraft. In 2005, she introduced Burnett’s Artist in Residence Program to build face-to-face working relationships between popular artists and the agency, thereby streamlining musical solutions and facilitating unique opportunities for marketers. The immediately successful approach was embraced by clients including McDonald’s, Kellogg and Nintendo, and was featured in Business 2.0, Billboard and The Wall Street Journal. A former journalist, Cheryl joined Leo Burnett as a copywriter. Proving herself to be a prolific writer and able manager, she became the first woman appointed to Burnett’s Board of Directors. The answer is the music expertise of Tena Clark. While at Sony, Kenny has brokered multi-million dollar deals including Train and Samsung, which was a major driver to over 5 million digital downloads sold of “Hey Soul Sister” to date, Passion Pit and Palm Pixi, which during the campaign shot their song “Sleepyhead” to 28,000 downloads per week, and worldwide Apple advertising campaigns featuring The Ting Tings, Franz Ferdinand and, most recently, Cake. Prior to his role at Sony, Kenny served as Vice President of Film and TV Licensing at Sanctuary Records Group where he was responsible for marketing, pitching and placing music on acclaimed and influential, musically driven first seasons of television shows (The O.C, The Sopranos, Entourage and Grey’s Anatomy), first and early use of licensed music in video games (Tony Hawk Pro Skater series, Grand Theft Auto) and Hewlett-Packard’s use of “Picture Book” by the Kinks, which was named “Campaign Of Year” in 2005 by Adweek magazine. Before working in music licensing, Kenny held various roles in the music business in radio, entertainment law and running his own Los Angeles-based independent record label in the early 90s after recording two albums of his own and being signed as a recording artist.

His last project for the company was launching the global Open Happiness campaign through a musical anthem featuring lead vocals by Cee-lo Green of Gnarls Barkley, Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy, Brendon Urie of Panic at the Disco, Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes and Janelle Monae. Marcus Peterzell, Managing Director, Engagement and Entertainment Marketing, FATHOM Communications

Marcus is a veteran and pioneer in the entertainment marketing business, and has created campaigns for more than two dozen top brands including Nokia, AXE and Jeep. His strategic acumen combined with in-depth experience and deep relationships in the entertainment industry have been invaluable to companies looking to promote their brands through entertainment channels—be it TV, film, music, gaming or digital. Marcus started his career in concert promotion at Concone and Electric Factory Concerts where he planned and executed the marketing plans for over 80 arena shows in five markets. He then moved into television developing and producing network and cable TV series and specials for outlets including Cinemax, Lifetime, USA, Viacom, and MTV. In 2004 Marcus was recruited by Radiate/Omnicom and named co-president of their leading entertainment marketing agency AWE (merged into GMR to form GMR Entertainment in 2007). In this role Marcus created and executed entertainment marketing platforms for over 40 national brands including A&E, Nokia, Jagermeister, Marlboro, Verizon Fios, The History Channel, Blackberry, Candies, Philips Electronics, Jeep, E!, Cruzan Rum, and JC Penny. In early 2009 Marcus moved within Omnicom to join Fathom Communications as the company’s Managing Director of Entertainment Marketing. This past summer Marcus and his team executed a ground-breaking partnership on behalf of Johnson & Johnson tying in the Lilith Fair tour, Walmart, Self Magazine, and content from all four of the major record labels. As a board member for the T.J Martell Foundation, Marcus serves as chairman of the foundation’s annual Family Day event, the charity’s most profitable fund-raiser. As a boutique agency founded in 2001, Optic Noise works closely with its musical clients, providing guidance, consultation and representation. Since its inception, Optic Noise has successfully placed hundreds of tracks in film, TV, video and commercials. Tara began 360 Media in 1996 from the basement of a friend’s house. Since then, the boutique agency has grown to become a major player in the entertainment / lifestyle / hospitality PR field of Atlanta. Ms. Lynn Oliver began her career as an intern with Hootie and the Blowfish and Fishco Management in Columbia, SC in 1994. After graduating from the University of South Carolina in 1995, she became a talent scout for Breaking / Atlantic Records helping to discover and develop some of the rising bands in the Southeastern music scene. This translated into an A & R director position with Grammy-winning producer Matt Serletic (Matchbox 20, Gloriana) at Melisma / Arista Records in Los Angeles and eventually Virgin Records NY where she supervised the growth of rock bands like The Exies and film and TV soundtracks such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer Vol. 3. Her contributions to pop singer Stacie Orrico’s Stacie Orrico lead to 2 international hit songs and the honor of “Top 5 A & R Woman in the World” in 2003. Wanting to be closer to home, Oliver left New York in 2004 to return to her roots in the south and accepted a position at BMI Atlanta in the writer / publisher relations department. After meeting Zac Brown in 2005 she left BMI to join Brown’s management company ROAR in 2007. Ms. Oliver is now proud to bring her years of experience and knowledge to her current position as GM of Southern Ground Artists overseeing the record label and publishing company started by Brown. Prior to ESM, Mr. Matthews served in a dual role as Director of Licensing, Rights and Clearances and Budget Director at Music World Entertainment, a management firm, representing the likes of Beyonce Knowles, Destiny’s Child, Kelly Rowland, and Lyfe Jennings. In 2007 he served as Budget Administrator for the “Beyonce Experience” Tour and in 2009 he served as Tour Administrator for the “I Am Sasha Fierce” Tour. Simultaneously during his tenure at Music World Entertainment, Mr. Matthews administered MWE Publishing on behalf of Mathew Knowles as well as publishing companies for Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams and Solange Knowles before they obtained publishing deals. Tracy Matthews has worked in the Music Business Industry for over a decade accumulating a unique body of experience in the areas of concert promotions, artist management, music publishing and record label operations. Tess Taylor

She won both times. From 1988 to 1993 Ms. Taylor was employed at MCA Records, Inc., last serving as Associate Director of Marketing. ABOUT THE SPEAKERS


Sean Beavan

Sean Beavan is a musician, record producer, writer, composer and audio engineer best known for his work with Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, God Lives Underwater, and Slayer. His production style is typically heavy, with heavily saturated guitars, but his work is diverse and wide-ranging as exemplified by bands like No Doubt, System of a Down and indie bands like Thrice and 8mm.

Beavan started his career as a musician and engineer in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. He played bass and sang in various local bands, and played fret-less bass with Clevelander Eric Carmen (of The Raspberries) on the song “Hungry Eyes” on the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack. While working as an engineer at The Right Track Studio in downtown Cleveland, Beavan met Trent Reznor who worked as the in-house programmer. Reznor also played keyboards in several local bands that Beavan mixed.

Reznor asked Beavan to mix the demos of what would eventually become Pretty Hate Machine, which had received multiple offers for record deals. Beavan mixed sound during Nine Inch Nails’ live concerts for many years, eventually becoming an unofficial member of the live band, even singing live backup vocals from his place at the mixing console. Reznor invited him to work on The Downward Spiral as well as mix several songs on Marilyn Manson’s debut record Portrait of an American Family. After contributing to several Nine Inch Nails remix releases (including Closer to God), Beavan mixed and co-produced Marilyn Manson’s Antichrist Superstar.

In 1996, after 8 years, Beavan left the Nine Inch Nails camp to mix front-of-house for the “Antichrist Superstar” world tour. In late 1997 Beavan and Manson moved into the Hollywood Hills and started production on Mechanical Animals.

Beavan went on to produce and mix records for artists as diverse as Guns N’ Roses, God Lives Underwater, System of a Down, Depeche Mode, No Doubt, Slayer, Kill Hannah, HYDE, P.O.D., Paloalto, Thrice, Unwritten Law, MOTH, Kidneythieves, Tommy Stinson, Tiger Lou, Hypernova, and Chronic Future. He also returned to work with Manson, mixing Eat Me, Drink Me.

Beavan is currently involved in his own band with his wife Juliette Beavan, and Drummer Jon Nicholson, called 8mm. 8mm have released 4 discs, “Opener”, “Songs To Love And Die By”, “On A Silent Night” (Christmas EP) and the current “Love And The Apocalypse”, all of which have attracted critical acclaim worldwide. 8mm are one of the most licensed artists in the industry. In addition to recently being featured on national promos for “Nip/Tuck” and Yamaha, their music has been popular with TV and film, including “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Nikita”, “Kings”, “One Tree Hill”, “Shark”, “Cold Case”, “Moonlight”, and the “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” soundtrack, to name a few. Having supported Sean Lennon on the west coast leg of his North American tour the dynamic Trip hop band are currently regulars in the Los Angeles music scene and have toured the US, Great Britain and South America.

After producing and mixing Denver Colorado favorites Meese for Atlantic Records, Beavan worked in the studio with Marilyn Manson on “The High End Of Low” with Chris Vrenna and Twiggy Ramirez at Sage and Sound in Hollywood, followed by mixing the album at his home studio, The Blue Room. Last March found Sean Beavan mixing fellow Clevelanders THIS IS A SHAKEDOWN!’s debut record on the newly formed Reversed Image Unlimited record label. Produced by multi-platinum producer Michael Seifert and recorded at Michael’s Ante Up Audio in the heart of downtown Cleveland, Sean mixed the record in their new SSL suite. Beavan followed up by mixing four songs for Japanese-American Sony Records artist Kylee produced by Jeff Turzo of God Lives Underwater fame. Later in the year, he produced and mixed Long Island indy faves Envy on the Coast. Maintaining his reputation for brilliance in diversity, he recently mixed albums for the seminal jazz-metal band The Shining, metal legends Forbidden and sonic master-minds The Kidney Thieves.

Neil Lawi, General Manager, WWE Music Group, A Division of World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc.

As the General Manager of WWE Music Group, A Division of World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. Neil Lawi is responsible for all aspects of music business for World Wrestling Entertainment. This includes music for television programming, films, TV specials and other projects involving music. The most recent example of this, Lawi confirmed Green Day’s “Know Your Enemy” to be the new theme song for WWE’s Friday Night SmackDown. In 2006 Lawi took the position of GM at WWE Music Group where he works to link the WWE brand with popular music across all mediums, including film, television, radio, the Internet, ring tones, video games, and emerging digital technologies. WWE Music Group works with in-house talent, as well as established recording artists and outside labels and management, to create new music for WWE television and pay-per-view programming, WWE Superstar albums, entrance theme collections, and a variety of new initiatives. Lawi joined WWE in 2003 to lead the company’s PR department where he was responsible for securing media exposure for WWE Superstars such as Vince McMahon & the McMahon Family, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Ric Flair, Triple H, Torrie Wilson, Stacy Keibler, Big Show and John Cena among others. Lawi came to WWE from Columbia Records where he held the position of VP of Publicity after working his way up from interning at the company. At Columbia he worked with artists such as James Taylor, Aerosmith, Jeff Buckley, Chuck D from Public Enemy, Shawn Colvin, Cypress Hill, Train, Neil Diamond and many others. He also supervised record labels that came through Columbia such as American Recordings where he worked with Rick Rubin, Johnny Cash, T Bone Burnett & The Coen Brothers and their label, DMZ Records. DMZ featured artists such as Ralph Stanley and soundtracks to Cold Mountain, A Mighty Wind and The Ladykillers. Lawi holds a BS degree in Management and double minor in Marketing and Organizational Studies from Ithaca College.

Joe Rudge, Music Supervisor, Search Party Music

After seeing his first Kiss Army concert in 1978, Joe Rudge was hell-bent on a career in music. His father, tour manager for The Rolling Stones and Lynyrd Skynyrd, took Joe on the road throughout the late seventies, kindling a life-long interest in the music and entertainment industry. Joe started as a production assistant at VH1, but soon moved on to music supervision when he was hired to music supervise for The Disney Channel. 2006 was a breakthrough year for Joe when he music-supervised the cult hit BRICK for Focus Features and the ABC shows LOST and SIX DEGREES through the music supervision company Search Party Music. Joe’s recent film credits include ROMAN POLANSKI: WANTED AND DESIRED for Think/HBO Films, the Paul Dano & Zooey Deschanel film GIGANTIC, and the Alexis Bledel film THE GOOD GUY. Joe’s most recent films include BLUE VALENTINE starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams and TWELVE for director Joel Schumacher. Currently he’s music supervising Wayne Wang’s SNOW FLOW AND THE SECRET FAN for Fox Searchlight and Aza Jacob’s TERRI for ATO Films. In addition to film and television, Joe also music-supervised a number of commercials with Search Party Music.




Jon Stone, Founder, Deepfreeze Music

Jon has worked in music for over 20 years as a musician, songwriter, producer, artist manager, and in music publishing, rights clearance, consulting and music supervision. Jon also served as synch licensing manager for a prestigious independent music publisher, negotiating and licensing placements of some of the most famous pop and jazz songs of the 20th Century for TV, film, commercials, stage, video games and more. Jon started Deepfreeze Music to promote the music of his former clients for synch placements, and has recently expanded to represent the music of new clients from as far away as New Zealand. Erik Masone joined Deepfreeze in 2008. Recent projects include music supervision for the soon-to-be released indie feature film Missing Pieces and music supervision and rights clearance on a documentary in production about the famed 1970s NYC rock club Max’s Kansas City. Jon lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

Ken navigates the changing and dynamic marketplace as media platforms and attendant deal structures evolve more rapidly than ever. This includes reclaiming copyrights, renegotiating of recording contracts, dealing with record label personalities and capturing new revenue streams in areas such as electronic gaming. Emerging artist clients with new deals, or those searching out their first opportunity turn to Ken’s experience to guide them through increasingly difficult terrain as they tackle intimidating 360º deals and work to build and leverage a credible presence on the Internet. Institutional clients face their own challenges. Yamaha, for example, has turned to Ken to help guide them through complex copyright issues relating to its electronic musical instrument-based product line. Steve Rennie represents rock artist Incubus. Prior to this, he was President of the Ultimate Band List and partner in ArtistDirect online music company. From 1994 to 1998, Rennie was Senior Vice President and General Manager of Epic Records, West Coast where he worked closely with artists Korn, Celine Dion, Ozzy Osbourne and Incubus. He supervised day-to-day operations of Epic’s West Coast offices and was responsible for the label’s West Coast A&R activities and marketing campaigns while functioning as liaison with artists, managers and the entertainment community. Rennie joined Epic after five years as president of REN Management, representing Dramarama, Wonder Stuff, Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, Primal Scream, The The, and Stabbing Westward. He began his career in music in 1979 as president of Steve Rennie Presents while attending college. He then spent eight years at Avalon Attractions (now part of Clear Channel Entertainment) as Executive Vice President where he promoted live concerts by most of the biggest touring attractions in the music industry.

Ken Mary

Ken Mary has worked as a producer, drummer, singer, and writer on some 30 albums that have sold over 5 million copies worldwide. He currently serves as President for VSR Music Group, an EMI distributed record label, and is a longtime member of the Grammy Nomination Committee. Ken’s talents have enhanced the work of a bizarre and eclectic group of artists that stylistically span everything from emo and hard core to choral music. The (incomplete) list includes internationally known artists such as Alice Cooper, Trik Turner, Megadeth, LaRue, House of Lords, Everybodyduck, The Phunk Junkeez, The Beach Boys, Northern Light Orchestra, Esterlyn, Trik Turner, Chris and Conrad, Bob Carlisle, Debbie Sledge, Ever Stays Red, Jordan Rudess, Gene Simmons, Scott Krippayne, as well as many new, upcoming artists such as Ember, Silverline, Seven Stories Up, Tayla, Kendall Gaveck, Echoes the Fall, Elida Young, Brian Weaver, and hopefully many more to come.

Equally at home producing a rock band, recording an authentic flamenco record, or mixing a 40-piece orchestra with a 300-voice choir, Ken thrives on artistic freedom. “…I love to work in different styles and capture the emotion of each song and artist. That’s ultimately what people respond to when they listen to music; they want to feel the emotion that the artist is feeling . . . “

Growing up in Seattle, WA, he began his career drumming in his high school rock band, Fifth Angel. The band signed to Epic Records in 1986, the same year in which Ken joined Alice Cooper and moved to LA. Ken somehow managed to juggle the two commitments, and spent the next three years touring with Alice, doing session work in LA, and promoting Fifth Angel. He later joined House of Lords (working with Kiss mogul Gene Simmons), and became a highly respected session and touring musician. In 1995, after several gold albums, MTV top 10 videos, and numerous world tours, Ken began producing for other artists as well. He currently serves as President for VSR Music Group, an EMI distributed record label, and is a longtime member of the Grammy Nomination Committee.

Throughout his career Ken has worked alongside and learned from some of the best music producers and engineers in the world including industry giants Andy Johns (Led Zepplin), Michael Wagener (Ozzy Osbourne, Janet Jackson, Extreme), Howard Benson (P.O.D.), Terry Date (Rage Against the Machine, White Zombie), Bill Kennedy (Nine Inch Nails, Megadeth), Mick Guzowski (Mariah Carey), Mac (Queen), Garth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Chevelle), and Desmond Child (Ricky Martin, Aerosmith).

Today he is known mainly for his skill as a multi-talented and critically acclaimed producer, engineer, and musician.

Over his career, Ken has racked up an impressive list of hits covering a wide range of artists which includes 8 Billboard Top 40 hits, 11 Top 10 hits in the CBA market, and numerous hits on other charts including Radio and Records, New Music Weekly, AOL Music, most recently the #1 New Music Weekly Top 40 Hit by Ember “The Deep End” which surpassed Daughtry and Lady Gaga in national airplay. Having experience in the Television industry as well, Ken won a Telly Award for his work as musical producer and director for the cable television series “Reality Rules.” He has also recorded for and appeared in three episodes of the long running hit ABC television series “Full House.”

John Houlihan is veteran music supervisor and music producer who has helped shape more than 55 feature films and dozens of popular soundtrack albums. His work has generated worldwide hit songs and videos by Madonna, Lenny Kravitz, Pink and Destiny’s Child. Film highlights include his music supervision of all three Austin Powers films, both of the Charlie’s Angels films, and Training Day, which earned a Best Actor Academy Award for Denzel Washington. John was involved in the 2008 Presidential Election when he music-supervised two important pieces for President Barack Obama. “A Mother’s Promise” was a 10-minute biography Directed by Oscar-winner Davis Guggenheim that premiered at Bronco stadium in Denver, CO. The film was seen live by millions worldwide when it played immediately before Mr. Obama took the stage to speak. The second piece was a 30-minute television special that aired days before the final Election Day vote. This special was broadcast simultaneously on over 7 major networks in the United States and viewed by a huge world audience. Over the past year John has worked on national advertising campaigns for Visa Inc., CTIA (the cell phone association made up of Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and more) and the American Beverage Association. John has succeeded in building a unique skill set on films ranging from Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 to the G-rated Charlotte’s Web. His work spanning all genres can be seen in Assault On Precinct 13, Get Rich Or Die Tryin’, The Lake House, Nacho Libre,The Love Guru, All About Steve, Miss Congeniality: Armed and Fabulous, Fame, and the 2010 release Brooklyn’s Finest. Current projects include the romantic comedy “Letters To Juliet” featuring an original song by platinum artist Colbie Caillat, 2010 Nicholas Cage thriller “The Hungry Rabbit Jumps,” and the public education documentary “Waiting For Superman” directed by Davis Guggenheim which includes an original end title song by John Legend.

ABOUT STEVE LILLYWHITE



Steve Lillywhite is an English Grammy Award winning record producer. From his early work with Ultravox in 1976 through to the present day, Lillywhite has produced a variety of musicians including U2, Peter Gabriel, The Psychedelic Furs, Dave Matthews Band, Joan Armatrading, Matchbox 20, Simple Minds, Morrissey, The Rolling Stones, XTC, The Talking Heads, Big Country, Darius Danesh , The Pogues and The Smiths, through to Beady Eye and Evanescence in recent times.

Lillywhite entered the music industry in 1972, when he worked as a tape operator for Polygram. He produced a demo recording for Ultravox, which led to them being offered a recording contract with Island Records. Lillywhite soon joined Island as a staff producer, where he worked with many of the leading new wave musicians. His first commercial success was with Siouxsie and the Banshees in August 1978, after producing their first single, “Hong Kong Garden”.

During the 1990s, Lillywhite continued to produce Morrissey, but began to make his mark with albums by Travis, Phish and on multi platinum albums, including Under the Table and Dreaming, Crash, and Before These Crowded Streets by the Dave Matthews Band. In 1990, he co-produced U2’s Achtung Baby, along with Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois and Flood. In 1991 he returned to Dublin to produce the debut album, A Sonic Holiday, with the Kilkenny based band, Engine Alley. He was also brought in to produce the debut (and only album) by The La’s. In 1996, he produced Phish’s Billy Breathes, and he returned to produce Joy in 2009.

Lilywhite was featured as the subject for a BBC Radio 1 documentary series on record producers.

In 2002, Universal Music Group head Lucian Grainge invited him to become managing director. Lillywhite signed singer-songwriter Darius Danesh and executive produced his debut album Dive In, which spawned three Top 10 hits, and Mercury Records’ first number one in eighteen years. He signed Razorlight, and produced Jason Mraz’s Mr. A-Z.

In September 2005 Lillywhite joined Columbia Records as a Senior Vice President of A&R. During his tenure he signed MGMT. Lillywhite collected consecutive Grammy Awards for Record of the Year with U2’s “Beautiful Day” and “Walk On.” In 2006, Lillywhite won three more Grammys: Producer of the Year (Non-Classical), Best Rock Album also with U2’s How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb; and a partial win for Album of the Year for How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.

In 2009, he began presenting a weekly radio show on East Village Radio called “The Lillywhite Sessions.” On 3 February 2010, Amy Lee of Evanescence announced on her Twitter that Lillywhite will produce their upcoming third album, which is expected to be released in late 2010. On 25 May 2010, the official Oasis Web site announced that Lillywhite was working with Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock on material for their new band Beady Eye.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS


Sean Beavan

Sean Beavan is a musician, record producer, writer, composer and audio engineer best known for his work with Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, God Lives Underwater, and Slayer. His production style is typically heavy, with heavily saturated guitars, but his work is diverse and wide-ranging as exemplified by bands like No Doubt, System of a Down and indie bands like Thrice and 8mm.

Beavan started his career as a musician and engineer in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. He played bass and sang in various local bands, and played fret-less bass with Clevelander Eric Carmen (of The Raspberries) on the song “Hungry Eyes” on the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack. While working as an engineer at The Right Track Studio in downtown Cleveland, Beavan met Trent Reznor who worked as the in-house programmer. Reznor also played keyboards in several local bands that Beavan mixed.

Reznor asked Beavan to mix the demos of what would eventually become Pretty Hate Machine, which had received multiple offers for record deals. Beavan mixed sound during Nine Inch Nails’ live concerts for many years, eventually becoming an unofficial member of the live band, even singing live backup vocals from his place at the mixing console. Reznor invited him to work on The Downward Spiral as well as mix several songs on Marilyn Manson’s debut record Portrait of an American Family. After contributing to several Nine Inch Nails remix releases (including Closer to God), Beavan mixed and co-produced Marilyn Manson’s Antichrist Superstar.

In 1996, after 8 years, Beavan left the Nine Inch Nails camp to mix front-of-house for the “Antichrist Superstar” world tour. In late 1997 Beavan and Manson moved into the Hollywood Hills and started production on Mechanical Animals.

Beavan went on to produce and mix records for artists as diverse as Guns N’ Roses, God Lives Underwater, System of a Down, Depeche Mode, No Doubt, Slayer, Kill Hannah, HYDE, P.O.D., Paloalto, Thrice, Unwritten Law, MOTH, Kidneythieves, Tommy Stinson, Tiger Lou, Hypernova, and Chronic Future. He also returned to work with Manson, mixing Eat Me, Drink Me.

Beavan is currently involved in his own band with his wife Juliette Beavan, and Drummer Jon Nicholson, called 8mm. 8mm have released 4 discs, “Opener”, “Songs To Love And Die By”, “On A Silent Night” (Christmas EP) and the current “Love And The Apocalypse”, all of which have attracted critical acclaim worldwide. 8mm are one of the most licensed artists in the industry. In addition to recently being featured on national promos for “Nip/Tuck” and Yamaha, their music has been popular with TV and film, including “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Nikita”, “Kings”, “One Tree Hill”, “Shark”, “Cold Case”, “Moonlight”, and the “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” soundtrack, to name a few. Having supported Sean Lennon on the west coast leg of his North American tour the dynamic Trip hop band are currently regulars in the Los Angeles music scene and have toured the US, Great Britain and South America.

After producing and mixing Denver Colorado favorites Meese for Atlantic Records, Beavan worked in the studio with Marilyn Manson on “The High End Of Low” with Chris Vrenna and Twiggy Ramirez at Sage and Sound in Hollywood, followed by mixing the album at his home studio, The Blue Room. Last March found Sean Beavan mixing fellow Clevelanders THIS IS A SHAKEDOWN!’s debut record on the newly formed Reversed Image Unlimited record label. Produced by multi-platinum producer Michael Seifert and recorded at Michael’s Ante Up Audio in the heart of downtown Cleveland, Sean mixed the record in their new SSL suite. Beavan followed up by mixing four songs for Japanese-American Sony Records artist Kylee produced by Jeff Turzo of God Lives Underwater fame. Later in the year, he produced and mixed Long Island indy faves Envy on the Coast. Maintaining his reputation for brilliance in diversity, he recently mixed albums for the seminal jazz-metal band The Shining, metal legends Forbidden and sonic master-minds The Kidney Thieves.

John Fetto got his start in the music business in 1971 and became a sales rep for J L Marsh (acquired by Pickwick) where he called on retail locations for commercial music. He moved to Musical Isle (acquired by Lieberman) where he serviced retail locations and worked his way up to VP of Sales, personally handling the Walmart account for over 5 years. He then joined Sight & Sound in video distribution as director of national accounts and then moved to Best Buy as a regional buyer for music. Roxell Richards, Esq., Entertainment Attorney

Entertainment attorney Roxell Richards has practiced in the music industry for over a decade. Ric Curtice, Sales, Marketing & Distribution Executive, Prime Time Entertainment

Ric Curtice has worked in the music business his entire career. He began working for the Marketing Department at MCA Records, and here is where he contributed to the development of successful careers for Fine Young Cannibals, Tom Petty, Bobby Brown, Coolio, Mary J. Blige, Jimmy Buffett, Elton John, Vince Gill and others. MCA’s parent company then bought Geffen Records, and Ric entered the Product Development Department for the company, where they had a successful string of multi-platinum sellers including Beck, Weezer, Guns n Roses, Nirvana, Hole, Counting Crows, Jackyl and others. As the industry continued its merging ways, Interscope Records was acquired by Universal where Ric continued successful campaigns to help define the careers of No Doubt, Marilyn Manson, NIN, Dr. Dre Bush and others. A stint at Independent label TVT Records continued his success at developing the careers of Sevendust, Andy Partridge, Pit Bull, Lil John, and others. Ric currently runs a successful independent music marketing and sales consulting business in the San Francisco Bay Area which includes clients Rocket Science Inc., Burnside Distribution Corporation, Booklines inc., Sumthing Distribution, Madacy Corporation, Prime Time Entertainment, and Red Hot Promotions, as well as others working with Heritage, New and Developing artists including Celldweller, Blind Pilot, Sugar Minott, Insolance, Chumbawamba, Karla Bonoff, Irma Thomas, Y & T, Sir Mixx a lot, Nile Rodgers, Ivan Neville, Sherri Austin, Steve Forbert, Dr.Dog, Radio Head, Cold War Kids, King Khan, Mathew Sweet among many others. She helps clients to develop strategic marketing and promotion plans, and offers performance coaching. Blending 25 years of business development expertise in organizations of all sizes and sectors from start-ups to Fortune 15 organizations, Tamra is developing community programs to provide music education programs for school-aged children and a national program to end violence against women. She is also a performing singer-songwriter whose recent album was on the final nominating ballot for the 2008 Grammys in the Best Contemporary Folk Album category. Rev. Marilyn Ann Batchelor, Founder, TBG Entertainment Marketing

A native of Detroit, MI, Marilyn Ann Batchelor graduated from one of the city’s premier college-prep high schools, Cass Technical High. She later earned a bachelor of science in magazine journalism and a bachelor of art in English Literature from Syracuse University. She began her career as a newspaper reporter for the Syracuse newspapers, The Detroit News and ultimately The Orange County Register. After transitioning from journalism to the entertainment industry, Marilyn joined the Universal Music Group working her way from director of marketing for Urban music to head of strategic marketing for Interscope/Geffen/A&M. At UMG, she marketed and oversaw strategic marketing for multiple Grammy, Oscar and Emmy Award-winning artists and projects from Patti LaBelle, Mary J. Blige, Ashlee Simpson, Keyshia Cole, Blink 182 to Gladys Knight, Avant, Gwen Stefani, a host of soundtracks and corporate projects. She also brokered numerous commercial endorsement deals such as Mary J. Blige and Chevrolet; Dr. Dre’ and the Beats headphones; the Pussycat Dolls and Ballys, Patti LaBelle and AARP to name a few. In 2000, she earned an executive MBA from Harvard University. After departing Universal in 2006, she launched TBG Entertainment Marketing, a music and film marketing and branding company which provides supplemental support for clients who do not have the manpower to sustain their workload. The most recent and successful project has been the reunion launch for inspirational greats BeBe & CeCe Winans, STILL, which debuted #1 on the Gospel and Inspirational charts and #2 on the Billboard R&B chart. They were just selected as a recipient of a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011 and the licensing of the CD’s song, “I Found Love” for this year’s “Today Throws a Wedding” theme.


Hayley Cammarata, Partner, SMG Entertainment

Hayley Cammarata is partner of Santa Monica-based SMG Entertainment and heads up the firm’s digital / strategic division, Mutt Marketing. SMG is an entertainment company with a booking, artist management, and online marketing division. The booking division purchases and produces large-scale concerts, corporate, private and college events. The artist management division manages the careers of major label and independent artists. The online marketing division works closely with major label talent to plan the release of their albums. Clients include Maroon 5, OAR, Ludacris, Andy Grammer, Brendan James, Dashboard Confessional, Colbie Caillat, Universal Music Group, The Fray and Elton John. Prior to SMG, Hayley was Digital and Strategic Marketing / Product Manager at Decca Label Group in New York, a division of Universal Music Group, where she developed the Digital Marketing Department from the ground up. Some of her duties included managing all DLG artist Web sites and label sites including social networking platforms, developing and maintaining strategic partners and branding relationships for the label and artists, and managing the department. After developing the department to what it is today, all releases have strong online visibility including mainstream real estate within sites like AOL and Yahoo and partnerships with less traditional entertainment sites. Hayley also served as a product manager to some of the label’s new developing artists including indie darling Ladyhawke. The diverse roster at Decca is home to such artists as Andrea Bocelli, Sting, Boyz II Men, David Sanborn, Dee Dee Bridgewater, David Garrett and newcomers Debi Nova and Nikki Yanofsky.


Erik Koral, Founder, FanManager LLC

FanManager owner and founder, Erik Koral, began his music business career a decade ago as the marketing director for Los Angeles based jam band phenoms Particle. He is a Los Angeles native who has lived in Southern California for most of his life and is a grad of UC Santa Cruz where he majored in Sociology. While in Santa Cruz, Erik developed a passion for live music and the jam band scene. Erik has experienced over 60 Phish concerts and has traveled the world seeing them and many of his other favorite artists. When the band Particle formed in the Fall of 2000, Erik pioneered the very first shows and became a devoted fan and their first street team member. He knew that the band had something special and dedicated much of his time spreading the Particle gospel through relentless street marketing and online communication with friends he made at hundreds of shows. Within a few years the band enjoyed a 2000-person street team, were filling venues across the country and playing great slots at huge festivals like Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits. Erik implemented his vision and growing experience in the field to build a full-service marketing and street team management company in 2005 and called it FanManager. To see the company grow and develop into what it is today has been a dream come true for Erik. The future of the company is now filled with possibilities since the Web site was upgraded in 2009 into an amazing platform. Erik can’t wait to see where technology and the legions of passionate fans will take the business in the coming years. He was a college tennis player, enjoys hiking, travel, industry zines, and keeping tuned in to tech blogs and other Web 3.0 innovations.
