According to PMA, 70% of the music used in Film, TV, advertising, video games and media today is production music. Join us in discussing hottest trends and issues in this vibrant arena. Our panel of experts will explore the latest trends in both songs and instrumental music for all media.

Topics discussed will include:
- Where do most PML songs tend to get used – promos, commercials, in-show?
- What types (styles) of songs in PMLs tend to get the most usage?
- What types of lyric content tend to be most useful for clients?
- To what extent are PML songs expected to mimic the charts as opposed to representing new material by indie artists?
- What kind of rates are PMLs charging for songs? Is a premium being charged for artist songs?

PANELISTS:

Janet Wade
Music Clearance & Licensing, Turner

Janet Wade has been a professional in the Music and Entertainment Industry for over 30 years, with expertise in the specialty area of Music Clearance and Synchronization Licensing rights for television and media production since 1990. Janet currently works for Turner in Atlanta, Georgia, where she negotiates licensed music deals for all of the Turner Sports broadcasts and promos (including NCAA, NBA, MLB Postseason and E-Sports), plus the promos and marketing campaigns for several of Turner’s entertainment networks, mainly TBS and TNT. She also handles music for many of TNT’s original series, plus network promos for the Latin America and International networks. Before moving to Atlanta in 2006 from Southern California, Janet was in charge of all licensed music for Universal Television, plus the USA Network and Studios USA Television. Janet later went to work at the Paramount Pictures studio in Hollywood, California, and managed all licensed music for Paramount Pictures Television, plus the UPN Network, Showtime Network and VH-1 productions. She held the title of Director of Music Clearance and Licensing for all television production at both Universal and Paramount. Under her own music clearance, licensing and consulting business, Janet has worked with recording artists, major corporations and book authors and has notably been credited on several published books. She is also credited with work on various TV soundtrack releases.

Josh Collum
Co-founder & Partner, Sorted Noise

Josh Collum is Co-Founder and Partner at Sorted Noise. Sorted Noise makes and licenses music for TV, film, advertising, trailers, and other media, and is built around a community of mostly Nashville based artists and composers. Recent work includes TV spots for Nutella, IKEA, and Pitney Bowes, a trailer for the Warner Bros film “If I Stay,” as well as songs in multiple TV shows such as Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Pretty Little Liars, and Vampire Diaries. In addition to Sorted Noise, Josh is also a successful singer / songwriter, particularly in the synch world. His band, Secrets in Stereo, has been licensed in film, TV, and advertising over 150 times and his songs have collected over a quarter of a billion views on Youtube. And as an industry thought leader, Josh has been a featured speaker at SXSW, Google For Entrepreneurs, Belmont University, Vanderbilt University, Nashville Film Festival, and Americana Music Festival, as well as quoted in Billboard, Music Business Worldwide, The Huffington Post, and The New York Times.

Doug Bossi
Owner, Composer, & Producer, iSpy Music

Doug Bossi is the award winning composer and driving force behind iSpy Music, which is a collective of incredible composers and artists around the world. Doug's musical journey has taken him all over the world as a renowned guitarist playing and recording with many popular bands and artists. Eventually his career took a more behind the scenes turn and he began to produce and compose for varios projects. As one small production rolled into the next bigger one, he started to assemble a team of creative cohorts to bring musical diversity to the growing list of iSpy Music's projects. To date, iSpy Music has done over 120 TV Shows.

Anastasia Brown
Music Supervisor, Format Entertainment

Nashville entertainment visionary Anastasia has carved out a unique, award-winning path that encompasses music, film and television while building a creative bridge between Nashville and Hollywood. Some of her roles include music supervisor, artist manager, music publisher, film, album and TV producer, author, TV star, A&R and label executive, talent scout and talent booker. She has an eye for discovering musical talent—most notably Keith Urban – and was tapped to serve as a judge for three seasons of the USA Network talent competition Nashville Star, which featured such contestants as Miranda Lambert, Chris Young and Kacey Musgraves. As a film and TV consultant for Warner Nashville, she generated 27 placements in a six-month period, including songs by Blake Shelton, the Zac Brown Band, Brett Eldredge and Hunter Hayes.

She is currently developing three separate television series, including a music-driven, non-scripted series with Matthew McConaughey, a scripted series set in Nashville with Ahmet Zappa and a lifestyle show set in Nashville with Dawn Soler (ABC) and Leslie Sbrocco (NBC). The common thread that runs through her distinguished and inimitable career is her ability to recognize trends and anticipate what will become popular next in American culture. She is known for her unwavering commitment to the artists and the music, film and TV projects they create. She is driven to find and develop new opportunities for Nashville’s music industry within the film and TV space to build and monetize brands while also adding new distribution channels for the music they create.

Randy Wachtler
President & CEO, Warner/Chappell Production Music

Randy Wachtler is the President & CEO of Warner/Chappell Production Music, a worldwide production music company with offices in New York, Nashville, Los Angeles, Paris and more. He is also the founder of 615 Music, which was acquired by Warner/Chappell in 2010. Wachtler is Co-Founder and past Chairman of the Production Music Association based in Los Angeles and currently serves as a Board Member. Under his leadership, today Warner/Chappell Production Music clients are comprised of some of the top media brands in the world. Clients include NBC, Today Show, History Channel, ESPN, Disney, A&E and many more. Wachtler has led Warner/Chappell Production Music to numerous prestigious industry award wins and nominations, including a National EMMY for A&E’s “Biography”, a Daytime EMMY for NBC’s “Today Show,” as well as ADDYs, PromaxBDA Awards, and others.

As the founder of 5 Alarm Music, Cassie facilitated the acquisition of 5 Alarm by Imagem Music Group, and is now spearheading 5 Alarm under the recent acquisition by Ole.
