CORRIE CHRISTOPHER, The Agency Group
Corrie Christopher began working in the music business in 1995 at the Tahoe Agency, a small boutique agency that represented acts such as Sublime, Blink 182, and Less Than Jake. She formed her own agency, Fierce Talent, in 1999 where she developed acts such as Rise Against, Yellowcard, Lucero and many more. After 6 successful years on her own she took her roster to The Agency Group in early 2005. She continues to work out of The Agency Group Los Angeles office specializing in developing acts from small clubs to arenas.
ERIK KORAL, Founder, Fan Manager
FanManager founder Erik Koral has been involved with grassroots promotion, guerrilla marketing, online viral marketing, and street team management for the last seven years. Erik started his career in music as the marketing director for jam-band superstars Particle in 2001 and he still works with them to this day. Erik formed his music marketing company, FanManager Marketing & Promotions, in March of 2005. FanManager has now grown to 17 clients including: Infected Mushroom, The Doors, G. Love & Special Sauce, Lyrics Born, PalTalk, Particle, Karl Denson Trio, The Marshall Tucker Band, John Densmore’s Tribaljazz, Mickey Hart, Steve Kimock, Reed Dollaz, ALO, Stephen Perkins, Delta Nove, Moonalice and Big Organ Trio. FanManager has also teamed up with Omotion.net to promote artists using the next generation of web marketing tools.
MASTIN KIPP, VP, The BAM Group
Twenty five-year-old Mastin Kipp, born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas, is a driven, passionate and motivated young manager. His infinite energy, understanding of the creative process, ability to focus and unrelenting positive attitude has set him a part from the pack. At 19, Mastin was hired at top music management house The Firm, where he worked under Peter Katsis. During his time at The Firm, Mastin was in the trenches learning the ins and outs of how to manage multi-platinum artists such as Limp Bizkit, Korn, Puddle of Mudd, Enrique Iglesias and Audioslave. At the age of 21, Mastin was hired by Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst to run his Geffen Records imprint, Flawless Records. Following his tenure at Flawless, Mastin took a leap of faith to start his own company. For two and a half years Mastin managed bands, produced live events and raised money to Executive Produce the album “Swim” by Emma Burgess (early 2008 release). In mid-2006, he was brought in to manage Gnarls Barkley by management company Waxploitation. After successfully managing Gnarls during the “Crazy” cycle and producing their 2007 Grammy performance, Mastin was offered a partnership at The BAM Group. He is Vice President of The BAM Group and is currently developing the branded apparel line Love Yourself.
RITCH ESRA, Publisher, Music Business Registries (moderator)
Since 1992, Ritch Esra and Stephen Trumbull have run the Music Business Registry which includes The A&R Registry, The Publisher Registry, The Music Business Attorney Registry, The Record Producer Directory and The Film and Television Music Guide. “The directories give everyone vital, accurate and the most up to date information they need to contact the entire A&R, music, publishing, legal and film/TV music communities,” says Ritch. “Each directory tells you how to reach these industry veterans by mail, E-mail (including web sites), direct dial telephone and fax. Additionally, we provide the exact title, street address, the name of their assistant and the style of music that each executive deals with. Due to the volatile nature of A&R, the A&R Registry is completely updated and reprinted every eight weeks and often has over 100 changes in a single issue. There’s no directory of this kind anywhere in the world.” Subscribers include record company executives, music publishers, managers, agents, attorneys, studios and other professionals in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville, Chicago, Atlanta, Toronto, London, Dublin, Copenhagen, Tokyo, Stockholm, Sydney and Munich. Ritch started out as a promotion coordinator for A&M Records in Los Angeles in 1980-81. From 1981-1987, he served as director of West Coast A&R for Arista Records, signing The Thompson Twins to their US Deal as well as Mara Getz. He worked extensively with the publishing and songwriting communities for material for Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, Melissa Manchester, Tanya Tucker, Jennifer Warnes and Jermaine Jackson. He also coordinated music for the “Ghostbusters” and “Perfect” soundtracks. After his stint with Arista, Ritch worked on various independent projects and produced the award-winning educational video for artists and musicians, “How to Get a Record Deal.” “At the time, it was the only video of its kind examining the frequently misunderstood process from five different perspectives: record company executives, A&R VPs, artist managers, record producers and 16 major artists including Los Lobos, Mark Knopfler, Phil Collins, Jody Watley, Karla Bonoff, Michael Bolton, Fleetwood Mac, Chick Corea and Kenny Loggins,” says Ritch. Producers Phil Ramone and Jeff Baxter are also interviewed in the video. Ritch has organized and coordinated the events and activities of The Independent Music Conference in Los Angeles sponsored by BMI. The three-day symposium addressed problems facing recording artists, including publishing, management, touring, obtaining record deals and exploring alternative ways to bring music to the public. In addition, he has written articles for Music Connection, New England Performer and Musician.
